Online dating can be fun! If you are just getting back into dating, it is a fantastic way to meet more people and start the dating process rather quickly. You can meet people outside of your area and people you would have never met.
There are a lot of apps to choose from. Which one is the right one for you? Consider:
- What type of relationship are you looking for?
- What type of people are you interested in meeting?
- What age group are you?
- What is your budget?
You aren’t going to be able to google the best dating site because most blogs where you can find these comparisons are sponsored by all or most of the sites they review. They have not researched all of the sites. I am not getting a commission from Match, this is my honest professional and personal opinion.
Let’s get into it. I will give you a rundown of what it is like to have a paid or unpaid subscription and the percs of both. Then you can decide if this is a good site for you.

I like Match because you have a lot of control over your search and matches. You get prompts to help you quickly fill out your profile and you can add more information to give more personality to your description. You can also search matches to your heart’s content as opposed to waiting for the system to send matches to you. You get to be proactive on this site.
Free subscription:
You can get on Match anytime for free. You can’t just get on the site and start exploring. You will be prompted to answer a series of questions about what type of match you are looking for: age, religion, children, relationship status, etc.. You will be asked for your 1st name, email and a phone number for a confirmation code. This takes you to a landing page of bullet points listing what you receive in the free and paid memberships. Choose free if you like just to explore and see how you feel about the site. Now you are launched!
You may now start searching matches. You are immediately shown one match at a time on the Discover Page, their photos and their profiles. It will say top pick in the top right corner of their profile if the algorithm calculates you to be a particularly good match.
You can hit can “skip” or “like” on each match. If you want to do your own search, click on the search tab at the top. It will open to a general search but you may also choose from Mutual Search, Reverse Search and Saved Search. You have already put in your desired age range and distance and other preferences so these matches all fit your criteria. Reverse search will be completely different matches as they are not within your search criteria. Opposites attract anyone?
The Likes tab means people that have liked you and matches appear in the Matches tab once you have both expressed interest in each other. The final tab – Events will show scheduled Match events that are close to your area.
Exploring the free subscription is an important step because you don’t want to pay for a membership before knowing if this site suits you, if your age group is represented, and if the type of match you are looking for has subscribed.
What you CAN do on the free subscription:
- You can look at unlimited profiles and matches
- You have access to limited messaging
- You will receive up to 6 hot picks (very close matches) daily as opposed up to as many as 12
- You can see your Super Likes, but you cannot send Super Likes
Paid subscription
The subscription fee is competitive with other sites, but people that choose match tend to be more long-term relationship-minded. $45.99 for one month, $74.97 for 3 months, $95.94 for 6 months and 143.88 for 12 months. The price per month goes down the longer the membership you choose. Prices also fluctuate based on their current promotions. You can also investigate their premium membership for even more options.
Because of the membership fee, people that sign up for Match are more relationship-minded. People aren’t going to pay $45.99 for one-night stands. People of all ages are on this site and you will have a lot of matches to choose from as Match is so well known. When people think of online dating Match most often comes to mind.
If a paid subscription is within your budget, you are going to enjoy many many more very important features on this site. You can connect with as many matches as you like, chat/message/call as many matches as you like, and continue searching if your current crush does not work out.
If you are serious about dating and the fee is not in your budget, get on, create a profile, and see how it goes. It may work well enough for you. If you get frustrated with the lack of access to important features, cancel your free subscription, and get on a free site like Bumble or Plenty of Fish.
If you decide to stay a free member, I would recommend putting that you are a non-paying member in your description as you will not have the same access as a paid member and you want interest matches to understand that.
You can search for your own matches which is my favorite feature. You will love this because you aren’t waiting on the system to connect you with possibilities. You are also sure to see every possibility.
As you narrow down your requirements, you can update your search features for the Search tab anytime. You may not search by income, but you can filter by age range, distance, height, relationship status, children, ethnicity, religion, education, body type, and smoking. Now, this is convenient for those of you that are very particular about a certain trait or quality. You can save your criteria to use this search in the future.
This site is flexible and offers many features. If you would like to have your profile featured to matches in your area so many more people see your profile, you can buy a “Boost” for $4.99 or a pack of 5 or a pack of 10. A boost lasts 60 minutes. You can even send a match that particularly sparks your interest a “Super Like” so they know you are really interested.
Want to see what activity is happening behind the scenes? Click on “Who Has Viewed Me” to see who has checked out your profile. You can then click on their photo and read their profile. You can then reach out with a “like”.
If you aren’t sure if Match is the right site for you, ask around to see what other singles are using. Try the free subscription so you can get a feel for the site, and then if you are still on the fence, buy a one-month membership.
Give online dating a try! Over 20% percent of committed relationships started online. FAR more dates than that have happened so that 20% is a pretty amazing statistic.
Be open-minded, try not to get too caught up in just physical attraction. Not everyone photographs well and you can see if there is attraction in your chat and then phone conversation.
Be honest in your profile and get started!
Your pictures are a priority – you have 1 second to get someone’s interest and most people are making that determination from your primary photo.
